The Maryland STEM Program group tutoring program allows students to participate in a full grade level math curriculum aligned with the Math Common Core State Standards (CCSS). A full grade level will be completed between March and August (24 weeks) to prepare students for the start of school in September. The program is designed to provide students and parents with resources to ensure students are pacing themselves to complete a grade level within 24 weeks. On average, students will cover 2 math chapters per month. Students attend a group tutoring session for 50 minutes every week, except the 5th weekend of a month. A typical group math tutoring session includes direct instruction (30 minutes) and guided practice (20 minutes). A maximum of 12 students can enroll in a session.
GROUP TUTORING FEE - $12.50 per session
$50 per month (auto-debit) - PROMOTIONAL RATE (enroll today to secure the promotional rate for up to 6 months)
50 minute group tutoring (12 students per grade level session) - 4 per month;
Monthly Homework Notebook; and
Monthly Khan Academy (online) Recommended Assignments (as long as the program is still being offered for free by Khan Academy)
GROUP TUTORING SESSIONS
Students attend a group tutoring session for 50 minutes per week every week, except the 5th Saturday or Sunday of a month. A typical group math tutoring session includes direct instruction (30 minutes) and guided practice (20 minutes). A maximum of 12 students can enroll in a session. Students must bring their monthly homework notebook (given out at the first session of the month), two sharpened pencils, and a grade level appropriate calculator (optional). The program will not provide these supplies during a session, no exceptions.
MONTHLY HOMEWORK NOTEBOOK
The monthly homework notebook with assignments and answer keys will be distributed the first Saturday or Sunday of the month at the appropriate grade level session. Each student in the program will receive one notebook each month. Notebooks can be shipped to clients within the United States for a fee of $10.00. Maryland STEM Program will send the client the tracking number via email; however, once the notebook is shipped, it is the responsibility of the client to work with USPS to retrieve the notebook. If a client needs a replacement monthly notebook, a replacement monthly notebook has a fee of $20.00 and it will be available at the student’s next session. Students are not required to complete the monthly homework notebook; however, the monthly notebook is the most important tool offered by the program.
WEEKLY KHAN ACADEMY RECOMMENDATIONS
The program will assign all students in the program recommended weekly assignments by Sunday evening to complete to aid in the pacing schedule. Most Khan Academy lessons have videos, step-by-step directions, and practice problems that assess the student’s progress. Students are not required to complete Khan Academy assignments. In order to gain access to the Khan Academy recomendations, each parent will be emailed setup directions. All assignments update on Sunday. If a client has not set up their account prior to the assignments being assigned on a Sunday, they will have to wait until the next Sunday to start receiving assignments.
COMMUNICATIONS & CONSULTATIONS
All communication for the Group Tutoring Program is handled via email. The director is available to speak to parents via phone on Fridays from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. by request. All requests for a phone call can be emailed to info@marylandstemprogram. Once a request is received, the director will email the client a time slot for a Friday between 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The program will not respond to text messages. Phone calls longer than 10 minutes require a consultation fee ($30 per half-hour). Parents may also schedule consultations for assessments. All private tutoring sessions are scheduled in advance and are delivered online via Join Me at a rate of $50 per half-hour.

**It is recommended that a student taking a math class above Math 5 enroll in the Multiplication Clinic concurrently with their desired class if they do not know their multiplication facts fluently up to 144 (12 x 12).
**Students must bring their own calculators (or cellphones/laptops with a calculator feature).
***Students may enroll in the multiplication clinic without enrolling in any other class.
